2007 Meeting Schedule: Lee
Town Hall, 7:30 PM – 13 Feb 07; 13 Mar 07; 10 Apr 07; 8 May 07
Wow! Finally, the snow has arrived. It’s looking
like an old fashioned winter. Our groomers and operators are putting in
many long hours to keep the trails in great shape. There was so much snow on the north trail after the weekend storm
that two groomers were sent up that way on Monday. One went ahead without a drag; the one behind did the
grooming. Our operators are to be
commended for volunteering their time to provide us with smooth trails. It takes eight hours to groom from Stokes
to West Leyden and Point Rock and six hours to go to Rome, Delta Lake State
Park, and Camroden Road. John Beggs,
our new groomer coordinator, is doing an outstanding job with scheduling both
the groomers and operators. This being
his first season holding that position, he has demonstrated outstanding
enthusiasm, dedication and cooperation in carrying out this responsibility.
- TRAILBUSTERS WEBSITE: Finally it is here! Our gratitude and thanks to the super, super job our new webmaster,
Joe McCarthy, has done to establish the beautiful website for the club. It contains club information, photos and
links, and is continually updated with the groomer runs. Be sure to check it daily at www.trailbusters.net. More things will be added in the future.
- Club Membership: We are overwhelmed with the number of new
club members who have joined us this year, doubling our membership. We
welcome you and thank you for choosing Trailbusters as your club. Membership has more than doubled. Membership to the club can be made through
our website, either by printing out a membership form and mailing it with the $25.00
dues directly to the club, or online at our website, printing out your voucher
for your registration, and paying club dues with a credit card.
- Trail Maps: The Oneida County snowmobile
trail maps are available at Stewart’s, Red Moon Saloon, and Mike’s Cycle &
Sport Shop, all on Route 26N; Schoff Polaris, at Elmer Hill Road & Route
26N, and Mom’s Diner, West Leyden.
Donation is $3.00.
- NYSSA Raffle Tickets: We have 400 NYSSA
raffle tickets to sell at $5.00 each.
The club gets to keep half of the total sales. The top prizes are five snowmobiles for a total of 54 prizes and
cash. Raffle drawing date is 14 April 2007.
If we were to sell all 400
tickets, the club would profit $1,000.00.
Since our club incurred many costly groomer repair bills recently, one
of which was a windshield replacement cost of $1,793.11 (insurance paid
$793.11), this raffle profit would be very welcome. Won’t you consider purchasing or selling even one ticket? Send an
email to indytraks@twcny.rr.com, or
call any officer and we will get the ticket to you.
- Gas Receipts: Remember to
continue depositing your receipts for purchases of gasoline for snowmobiles at
Stewart’s in Stokes/Route 26N, and Nice N’ Easy, Route 26N/Hawkins Corners Road
ONLY. All receipts for sled gas purchases at these
locations can be deposited into the Trailbusters box inside the stores. If you don’t see the receipt boxes, please
ask the clerks who will deposit them for you.
- Trail Respect: There have been many problems
with snowmobiles around the new bank which is being constructed at the Route
26N/Elmer Hill Road intersection.
Snowmobiles are crossing the bank construction site and not staying on
the designated trail. You should not
cross Route 26 to get to and from the gas station from the trail. From Nice N
Easy, you need to go back to the designated trail near the Colonial. Despite erecting plastic fencing, tape and
signs, it doesn’t stop sledders from breaking through. Our members have spent their valuable time
to work in adverse weather conditions to secure this site and people still
don’t get the message. Sleds keep barreling
through the alfalfa field on the Sly Hill trail taking a shortcut, despite the
fact that the trail is freshly groomed and is staked around the crops. No wonder trails get closed!
- Lee Center Trail:
The reroute to Lee Center from the town park was started but halted when
heavy snow and extreme cold set in and we had excavator scheduling delays. Hopefully, it will be open within a week.
- Club Newsletter via email: We have many
new members for whom we do not have email addresses. If you are receiving this newsletter via regular mail and can
receive it electronically, forward your email address to indytraks@twcny.rr.com. This will save the club postage plus reduce
the time and effort to get it to you.
Additionally, our newsletters are posted on our website.
Remember the monthly meeting – Tuesday, 13 Feb 07, 7:30, Lee Town Hall
