February Meeting: Tuesday, 14 Feb 2006, 7:30 PM – Lee Town Hall

Last week was the 40th anniversary of the Blizzard of ’66. Anyone out there remember that one? We were snowed in for three days – what we couldn’t do with that snow now, huh?

• A small crew that has continued to work on improving trail conditions. They were out there on New Year’s Eve day, in the rain and fog, fixing water holes, and installing a culvert on the north trail. Thanks to those few guys, you know who you are!

• If we ever get enough snow the grooming and riding will resume. Hope it arrives soon!

Trail Alert: Logging has started on our north trail at Beartown Road. Heading north, when the trail reaches Beartown Road, we travel the shoulder a ways. When we turn back into the trail the logging is in this area. It is very rough with debris on the trail. Until the groomer can go thru and attempt to clean up, or during logging activity, it would be best to continue up the shoulder of the road and turn left into the trail avoiding this area.

New York Snowmobiler Magazine: Did you read the Jan 2006 issue? On page 10 there is an interesting article entitled Riding from Rome which covers some of our trail system. Additionally, there is a photo of a sled crossing the small bridge in West Branch which is not now on our trail system but was used many years ago.

Trail Party Held Despite the Weather: Despite the fact that all the snow disappeared and the rain came down, we had a great turnout for the trail party at the groomer barn on Sunday, the 29th of January. Despite President Mark and vice president Dave getting soaked grilling the meat and steaming the clams outdoors in the rain, they and the many that turned out had a good time. We had some beautiful outdoor Christmas decorations for door prizes. These were donated by members Karen and Bob Gerace and JK Lumber. Many thanks for this donation. The 50/50 raffle was won by Sandra Schoff, who donated her winnings back to the club. Thank you Sandy!

2007 Snowmobile Model Demos: Believe it or not, but the 2007 snowmobile previews are just around the corner! The first preview that we have information on is for the new Polaris models. They will be shown at our local dealer, Schoff Polaris, at their new location on Elmer Hill Road (just off State Route 26 North) at the traffic light, on Monday, 6 March through Sunday, 12 March. This year, Polaris is replacing sneak peeks of new sleds with demo opportunities. They will have at least four models available for test riding. Stop in to ride the new sleds out the door and down our trail system. Our club will be there on the weekend serving hot dogs and soda.

Trail Maps: The Oneida County trail maps are out and available at many local businesses, i.e., Stewart’s, Nice N Easy, Schoff Polaris, Mike’s Sport Shop, Mom’s Diner and the Milk Plant.

Gas Receipts: There are collection boxes at both Stewart’s and Nice N Easy, both on Turin Road/Route 26. Please put your snowmobile gas receipts in the boxes or ask the clerks to do it for you.

SEE YOU AT THE MEETING TUESDAY AT 7:30 PM HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!
